The Palais Bourbon is a historic palace in Paris that now serves as the seat of France’s National Assembly, the lower house of the French Parliament.
The palace was originally built in the 18th century as a private residence for Louise Françoise de Bourbon, the daughter of King Louis XIV. Over the years, it went through several changes and played different roles during France’s turbulent political history. Today, it is best known as the place where the National Assembly meets.
The National Assembly has 577 members, known as deputies who are elected for five-year terms. They debate, propose, amend, and vote on laws, oversee the government, and evaluate public policies. Unlike the Senate.. the National Assembly can also force the government to resign by passing a motion of no confidence.
The Palais Bourbon is located along the Seine River in Paris, directly across from the Place de la Concorde. Its historic architecture and political importance make it one of the most recognizable government buildings in France.
