The Orion III is a fictional spacecraft from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, which came out in 1968 and uhu02 made a papercraft version of Orion III.
Itโs basically a commercial space shuttle that transports passengers to and from an orbiting space station involved in the mysterious monoliths tied to humanity’s evolution.
In terms of design, the Orion III has a sleek, elongated look with a big engine cluster, showcasing the film’s groundbreaking take on space travel.
It aimed to give audiences a more realistic depiction of futuristic spacecraft. Inside, the Orion III is all about comfort, with spacious cabins for passengers, which is quite a departure from the cold utilitarian vibe of earlier cinematic space vehicles.
