In the Imperial Japanese Navy of heavy cruiser, Chikuma is the second and last vessel in Tone class. Its name refer to Chikuma river in Nagano.
Tasked with long range scouting and had large seaplane capacity it started operation in 1939 and fairly active in WW2 for all its features that gives benefits to the Japanese during the war.
During WW2 Chikuma is involved in the battle of Java sea, Indian ocean raids , battle of Midway, battle of the eastern Solomons, battle of santa cruz, battle of Philippine sea, and battle of Leyte Gulf.
