I pre-ordered the Retroid Pocket G2 with its dual-screen add-on, and here’s my opinion of it.

I’ve been using my Retroid Pocket G2 for about three weeks now. It took around eight days to arrive, and I’ve had a lot of fun with it.

At first I was aiming for the AYN Thor, but the price to my area was really expensive. While Retroid Pocket G2 only costs a fraction of the Thor, so I went with that. My main goal is to play 3DS games, but I also want to try Neo Geo, PC Engine, and maybe some Switch titles.

Retroid Pocket G2 Price is around $219 while the dual screen addon is $69.00 . However price can be cheaper on Aliexpress with coupons.

I installed the ES-DE frontend, Azahar Plus, Eden, and Retroid. Eden needs a little editing to work with ES-DE, but it’s easy to fix with a simple drag and drop. The others are basically plug and play after you set the paths for each console. For more details, check the RUS Retro Game console YouTube video.

So far, 3DS games run really well, I scaled them up to 4x and they look great. Other consoles scale fine too. For Switch titles I left the settings at default, and they still run at 60 fps using the Kimchi system Turnip driver.

You can set apps to open on either the external or internal screen and run both at the same time, like on the AYN Thor. I usually have YouTube on the add-on screen while I play games on the main display.

There was only one game I tested that gave me problems during fights: Fire Emblem. It stutters badly but you can disable the battle animations, so that fixes the issue.

I haven’t tried PSP, PSX, or PS2 yet, but I’m pretty sure it’ll run them fine since it can handle Switch games.

For accessories, I only have a screen protector on the main display right now. I plan to get a hard case and a silicone cover to improve the gaming experience. Since its design is similar to the RP5, it can use the same accessories.

So If you want to play dual screen retro games without spending a lot, I recommend the Retroid Pocket G2 with its add-on.
